Amanda Truscott was in the very first class at VSIE and attended from kindergarten until grade 5. She says, ” I feel like my time in the Victoria School for Ideal Education gave me a really good head start. When I went into the public system I felt like learning was easier for me than for a lot of the other students and I attribute that largely to my time in the school. The meditation has continued to be an asset in my life.” “What I appreciated most about the experience was being given the freedom to excel. If I wanted to read ahead in a book or speed through my lessons, I didn’t have to wait for anyone; the individual attention from teachers meant that I could work at my own pace and still get help when I needed it. My time at the school gave me a solid academic foundation, which made later schoolwork a lot easier than it probably would have been otherwise. In addition to that, the SCI principles and fundamentals have stayed with me, and I still do my best to apply them.”
Amanda earned a BA with First Class Honors from the University of BC in English Literature and Sociology and a Master of Journalism degree from Carleton University. These days, Amanda lives in Edmonton and works as a developer of online training for Honeywell. Of her working life now Amanda says, “I’m learning all the time, and interacting with a lot of really great people.”

Callan in kindergarten at VSIE
Callan McCarthy is a grade 7 student at Central Middle School in Victoria. He attended Victoria School for Ideal Education from kindergarten to grade 6. Callan had this to say about his VSIE experience:
“Meditation helped with the schoolwork and the day felt nicer. It made it easier to focus and I felt less tired.”
What else did he like?
“The teachers were nice. They didn’t give out homework.”
